Knox Sport and Leisure Awards

The Club of the Year Award recognises a Knox-based sport and leisure club that demonstrates good governance, attends Council’s club development workshops, and is inclusive and supportive to volunteers.

Please make sure you read the information about each award category and eligibility criteria on the Knox Sport and Leisure Awards web page.

Nominations close 9:00 am Tuesday 10 March 2026.

Eligibility criteria

To be considered for this award, the club must meet all the following requirements:

  • be based in Knox
  • have not won this award in the last two years
  • have no Breach of Tenancy from Council in the last 12 months
  • be incorporated and report annually to Consumer Affairs Victoria
  • have a Child Safe Policy.

Before you start

  • Plan your responses as the form cannot be edited once submitted
  • You cannot save progress, so allow up to 15 minutes to complete the form
  • Have the club incorporation number ready (find this at Consumer Affairs Victoria).
  • Prepare clear, concise, and persuasive information (up to 200 words per response).
  • Upload PDFs of relevant club plans or policies to strengthen your nomination (e.g. Volunteer Management Plan, Governance Policy, Strategic Plan).

How decisions are made and responsibilities are managed in an organisation, using clear processes and accountability.

Does the club have a Child Safe Policy?
Does the club meet the governance requirements of your association (if applicable)?
Examples: Adhering to Council and/or the sporting body guidelines, setting up new club policies and procedures, maintaining accurate RSA and WWC registers, financial management practices, etc.

Volunteers

How the club attracts, supports, and values volunteers, builds their skills, and creates an inclusive and rewarding experience.

Examples: include creative ways to encourage volunteers to join and remain with the club; building the capability of committee members, coaches, and club leaders; establishing volunteer pathways; developing succession plans, volunteer recognition, inclusive club culture, etc.

Inclusive participation

Providing opportunities and supporting participation from under-represented groups across all club activities.

Under-represented groups include women, gender-diverse people, people with disabilities, Indigenous communities, culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities, and older people.

Does the club run any teams, or run programs directly for under-represented groups?
Example: programs for people with vision impairment, all abilities programs, walking netball, soccer, CALD competitions, wheelchair sports, and LGBTIQ+ programs, etc.

Inclusive leadership

Ensuring individuals from under-represented groups hold leadership positions within the club, such as coaches, trainers, officials, and committee members.

Under-represented groups include women, gender-diverse people, people with disabilities, Indigenous communities, culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities, and older people.

Does the club have people from under-represented groups in positions of leadership?
Examples: people with disability, people with English as an additional language, women, girls, and LGBTIQ+ people in leadership and governance roles such as Club President, Secretary, Treasurer, social media Officer, Technical Director, Club Operations Manager, etc.

Club growth

Building participation by connecting with the broader community through initiatives such as school programs, community events, clinics, festivals, and development workshops.

Does the club engage with the broader community to increase participation?
Examples include delivering programs in schools; participating in community festivals and events; offering free come-and-try clinics; implementing financial hardship policies; attending Council Club Development workshops, etc.
