Offers Kindergarten

Offers will be processed using the Knox Early Years Services (KEYS) Online system, according to the Priority of Access Policy and Procedure

Families that have not yet supplied Knox Kindergarten with an email address for their kindergarten application, will receive a hard copy form in the mail which needs to be returned to Knox City Council.

Knox City Council has a Central Registration process used to allocate places at kindergarten that are managed by Council.

When do I select which group I want my child to attend?

Families will have the opportunity to select which group they would like their child to attend from May of the year before attendance.

What if I move house?

It is your responsibility to ensure that your details are correct and up-to-date at all times to allow us to process your child's kindergarten registration.

This will also ensure that your child can receive their Kindergarten Offer.

You can edit your details via the KEYS Online Portal, using the email address you have supplied Knox Kindergarten Services. If you are unsure as to which email you have supplied please DO NOT create a new account. Contact Knox Kindergarten Services on 9298 8000 who will be able to confirm which email is registered for your child.

Can my child attend a second year of Kindergarten ?

Your child is eligible for a second year of kindergarten if the Kindergarten Educator at the centre that your child attends has made the assessment in consultation with you that your child will benefit from a second year of Kindergarten. The Department of Education and Training (DET) has a clear process and guidelines around eligibility for a second year of Kindergarten.

My child needs additional support. Who do I speak to?

Knox City Council Kindergarten Services is committed to providing an inclusive educational program for all children and families.

Contact your Kindergarten Educator if you would like information about additional support for your child in their Kindergarten year. The Early Years Consultants (EYCs) provide a free advisory service for educators and families of children accessing their 4 year old Kindergarten year. EYCs can consult with educators and families in the year before Kindergarten entry.

Kindergarten are able to apply for additional support and resources to assist with the inclusion of children with a disability and/or high medical needs.

Who can I contact if I have a concern regarding my child at Kindergarten?

If you have any concerns or issues you would like to discuss related to the education and care of your child, it is recommended that you first approach and talk with your child’s Kindergarten Educator.

If the concern or issue remains unresolved after consultation with the Kindergarten Educator, contact a Knox City Council Kindergarten Services Team Leader on 9298 8000.

Concerns related to the operation of the centre may also be raised with the Kindergarten Services Team Leaders. Alternatively, concerns or issues related to any aspect of the operation of the centre, educator or committee may also be raised directly with Department of Education and Training (DET) on 8392 9300.

What does 'funded kindergarten place' mean?

The Victorian Government provides funding to Council so children can access a kindergarten program in the year before they start school. Funded kindergarten programs cannot be accessed in two different services.

If a place is already being accessed at a different Children’s Service that offers a funded kindergarten program (e.g. a child care centre), this will be considered your Victorian Government eligible funded kindergarten place.

What is KEYS Online?

KEYS Online is the online system for registration for children entering Knox City Council's kindergarten services. All information about families’ details and payments are kept secure by Knox City Council.

Why do you want to know if my child is of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Island descent?

On 7th April 2009, the Minister for Children and Early Childhood Development (Now Department of Education and Training) announced that free kindergarten is available for all four year old children of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent.

The Kindergarten Fee Subsidy for children of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander descent is available to funded organisations operating funded Preschool/Kindergarten services. Knox City Council is funded by Department of Education and Training to operate preschool services in Knox.
