Knox City Council is committed to providing a website that is accessible to our entire community, no matter what device they access it through.

At all times, we aim for the accepted worldwide standard, WCAG 2.1 Level AA guidelines.

Website accessibility

Knox City Council website has been designed to ensure that our content is available to all users, including those with visual, motor or cognitive disabilities.

We regularly assess and update our website to meet the current Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA guidelines.

For more information about WCAG and accessible websites, please visit the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) website.

All content should be written in plain English and with an acceptable level of Readability.

Accessible website functions

Below are some of the technical functions we have taken to support WCAG 2.1 Level AA guidelines.

Font size

We offer you the ability to easily make font size larger or smaller on all web pages.

You can change the font size in the top right corner of our website navigation.

Language translation

You can translate our web pages into multiple languages in the top right corner of our website navigation.

There are also translator and interpreter services information available to the Knox community.

PDFs

We have attempted to keep PDF downloads to a minimum on this website, but sometimes PDF's are necessary.

Most modern web browsers can view PDFs. You can also download Adobe Reader. A free Microsoft Word Viewer is also available.

Please note that most PDFs are produced by Council, however some may be supplied to us from third parties and may not be readily available in alternative formats.

Video and audio

Video and audio are used on the Knox City Council website.

Where possible, transcripts are provided for this content, to enable access for hearing-impaired visitors (as well as those without speakers or headphones).

Speech and Hearing Impaired Assistance

Knox City Council is Relay Service Friendly.

If you are deaf or have a hearing impairment or speech impairment, our website uses a speaker service to allow content to be read aloud.

This can be found under each page title, in the top left, under a button called 'Listen'.

Access Keys

Our disability Access Keys are customised accessibility guides that provide:

  • information
  • prediction
  • structure
  • orientation
  • and sensory integration.

This helps visitors with autism spectrum disorder, cognitive impairment, intellectual disabilities, dementia or Alzheimer’s understand what to expect when visiting the council.
