Start or Expand a Business

We’re here to support you because your business is important to our community and local economy.

Before you begin, it’s important that you familiarise yourself with Council permits and registrations required for your business. This way, you can apply for these at the same time, and progress your business.

To help you, we’ve prepared a simple guide (see below), and our Permit Support Team is available to assist you along the way.

Guide to Council permits and registrations

The Council permits and registrations you need, depends on the type of business you are running. You will most likely need at least one of the following permits or registrations from Council:

  • Planning Permit
  • Building Permit
  • Health Registration (eg. Food Premises, Accommodation & Beauty/Health)
  • Community Laws Permit (eg. Commercial use of footpath, Street, Vehicle & Roadside Trading)

STEP 1: Contact us

It is fundamental that you understand business regulations before you sign a lease or buy a property. We encourage you to discuss your plans with us, to make a better informed decision. We’ll also will advise you which Council permits and registrations your business needs

STEP 2: Meet with the team

If more than one permit is required, a meeting with the Business Support Team can be arranged.

In the meeting, the team will give you an overview of the application requirements, steps and assessment process.
