- Fireworks notice for pet owners
On 25 and 31 December, there will be fireworks in the vicinity of Anderson St Ferntree Gully. Pet owners living nearby are recommended to prepare their pets to keep them calm and safe.
The fireworks displays are scheduled for
- Christmas Day, 25 December, 12pm to 12:15pm
- New Year’s Eve, 31 December, midnight to 12:15am
This is a private event on private land not funded or organised by Council. A permit is not required from Council for fireworks on private land. Fireworks must be discharged by a licenced pyrotechnic and they must notify Fire Rescue Victoria, CFA, Victoria Police and lodge paperwork with WorkSafe.
Loud noises from fireworks displays can easily frighten pets. Out of panic, they may run away from the explosive sounds, and injure themselves in the process.
Pet owners are recommended to keep pets indoors before and during the fireworks display to keep them safe.
Setting up a quiet area for your pet to rest and play inside, will keep them comfortable and happy. Closing the curtains, playing music, or having the TV on, will help mask the noise from the fireworks.
Further information on pet care during fireworks displays is available on the RSPCA website.
