Construction of a new wetland at RD Egan Lee Reserve in Knoxfield is complete and ready for the community to explore and enjoy.

The new wetland improves local water quality and biodiversity, by providing habitat for local plant life, animals and insects.

The space has been designed for recreational activities such as walking, running, cycling, bird watching and social gatherings.

Council invested $800,000 in the new wetlands with Melbourne Water contributing an additional $200,000.

Community feedback shaped the final wetland design. We included additional safety fencing, educational signage and more seating in convenient locations.

The wetland is a key initiative in the R.D. Egan Lee Reserve Masterplan, endorsed by Council in 2018. In addition to the new wetland, Council has also delivered:

•    an upgraded carpark
•    a new playground
•    a new picnic area
•    a multipurpose court
•    an outdoor gym equipment station
•    walking path connections to Wallace Road and Watersedge Close, Knoxfield.

A community planting event will not be planned as initially communicated to provide quiet time for the newly planted vegetation and aquatic environment to get settled and established.
