Knox Factor

Knox Factor is a talent competition for aspiring vocalists from five – 25 years of age, who either live, study, work or play within Knox.

About the competition

Knox Factor takes place annually, with the grand final performed at Knox Carols by Candlelight 2021.

Applications to participate have now closed.

Applications must have followed these conditions:

  • submitted by 5pm Friday 20 August
  • audition videos must have been raw with no editing, backup vocals or microphones.

Successful applicants will be in the running for:

  • professional mentor support and training in vocal technique, song writing and performance
  • public performance opportunities including the Grand Final at Knox Carols
  • studio recording time and musical equipment
  • exposure to music industry and local arts networks.

The program will be adapted as a series of virtual, bookable or on-site events to comply safely with COVID-19 restrictions as required.

  • Wednesday 29 September - Heats (Virtual)
  • Wednesday 27 October - Semi Finals (Virtual)
  • Saturday 11 December - Finals, Knox Carols by Candlelight

2021 Mentors

Andrea Cobern

Mentor 16-25 years age category

Andrea has been involved in the music industry for over 30 years. She is a gifted singer, as well as a vocal and music performance coach, entertainment mentor, and businesswoman. Andrea’s own singing career stems far and wide, with both national and international appearances across television, radio, cabaret, corporate and private functions, as well as performing with bands for live gigs, and recordings with some of Australia’s finest. Andrea works in multiple recording studios as a harmony and vocal specialist, guiding artists toward single releases. Andrea works with performers of all ages, from across the local area and surrounding districts, bringing them together to learn, rehearse, develop, and perform. She has trained artists to become teachers, professional recording artists, songwriters, and more.

Clare Assetta

Mentor 12-15 years age category

Clare is the driving force behind Freedom Music Studios. Her personality, experience and passion for the industry make her a highly-sought after vocal instructor. Clare has spent the past 25 years studying the art of Vocal Production. She has gained an extensive set of qualifications including a Bachelor of Science majoring in anatomy and physiology and a Diploma of Education, both from The University of Melbourne. Clare has worked hard over the past 15 years to achieve her ranking as a certified Level 3 singing teacher with the Institute of Vocal Advancement and has completed The Estill Compulsory Figures for Voice Control course four times. Clare's mission is to provide as many students as possible with the skills required to ensure that they may have long and successful careers whilst singing and performing to their maximum potential.

Emma Austin

Mentor 5-11 years age category

Emma is a teacher and performer who completed her Bachelor of Arts (Music Theatre) at the Federation University Arts Academy (BAPA) and her Master of Teaching (Primary and Secondary) at Deakin University. She is currently the Head of Instrumental and Voice at Forte School of Music Wantirna, teaching both classroom music and private voice students. Emma’s recent performance credits include Box and Cox (Maniacal Arts), The Zooperhero’s Quest to Find the Orange Bellied Parrot (Zoos Victoria), Into the Woods (Federation University), Box and Cox: Married and Settled (Maniacal Arts), Taming of the Shrew (Melbourne Shakespeare Company), Ulysses (Bloomsday Melbourne) and As You Like It (Melbourne Shakespeare Company).
