Making Knox more Electric Vehicle ready

Council adopts policy supporting the expansion of the EV charging network across Knox, and the introduction of new fees for Council’s EV chargers from 1 July 2025.

Following community consultation, Knox City Council has adopted the Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Policy at the 10 June 2025 Council meeting.

Thank you to over 220 community members who shared their thoughts on the current and future needs for public Electric Vehicle (EV) chargers. Your input helped shape this new policy.

The policy aims to guide how we grow the EV charging network on Council owned and managed land, aligning with our Climate Response Plan. This plan supports our community transitioning to sustainable transport to help reduce local emissions to net zero by 2040.

Starting 1 July 2025, charging fees will be introduced at Council’s EV chargers.

EV drivers will need to download the new Exploren app to use these chargers from Friday 27 June 2025. No charging fee will be applied until 1 July 2025. Charging fees are listed in the app.
These fees are designed to cover operational costs and ensure fair use of the EV charging spaces.

Council currently operates five public electric car charging stations located at:
•    Knox Civic Centre, 511 Burwood Highway, Wantirna South
•    Fairpark Reserve, 1a Manuka Drive, Ferntree Gully
•    Knox Regional Netball Centre, 9 Dempster Street, Ferntree Gully
