Keep leaving your rubbish bin out until 6pm

From now until October, rubbish bin lids are being changed from yellow to red to meet new state government rules. Please leave your rubbish bin out until 6pm on your usual rubbish collection day so your lid can be changed.

On Monday, 28 April, we started the process of changing over 60,000 rubbish bin lids in Knox. With the community’s support, we have swapped nearly 20,000 lids so far, averaging 2,700 per day. Thank you to everyone who has helped achieve this result.

With more lids still to change, a reminder of how we need your help:

What to do

Leave your rubbish bin out until 6 pm on your usual rubbish collection day so your lid can be changed. Do this every fortnight until you get your new red lid.

Rubbish bin lids will only be changed on your usual rubbish collection day

There’s no need to let us know if your lid hasn’t been changed straight away or if your neighbour’s lid has been changed and yours hasn’t - we’ll get to you.

If you haven’t received your new lid by 1 October, let us know.

What to expect

Your rubbish bin will be emptied as usual, and a separate truck will come by to change your lid.

Depending on what time of day your rubbish bin is normally collected, your lid may be changed before or after your bin is emptied, so leave your rubbish bin out until 6 pm for both tasks to be completed.

Why are lids changing?

Victoria's plan for a circular economy requires everyone in Victoria to have the same colour bin lids. This will help us all put the right things in the right bin and manage our waste better.

Further information

Details about the change were sent in the mail to all Knox residents in early April.
