Together, we've changed 86% of bin lids

Thanks to your efforts, we’re making great progress and are ahead of schedule in changing all residential rubbish bin lids in Knox from yellow to red.

Nearly 60,000 (86%) rubbish bin lids in Knox have been changed since the rollout began on 28 April. Thank you to everyone who has left their bin out on rubbish collection day so their lid can be changed – your help has made this progress possible.

There are approximately 10,000 rubbish bin lids in Knox left to be swapped. This will be conducted over the coming months and scheduled for completion by October.

What to do if you still have a yellow lid

For those still to get their red lid, thank you for your patience.  Here’s what you need to know.

  • Leave your rubbish bin out on your usual rubbish collection day so your lid can be changed.  Do this every fortnight until you get your new red lid.
  • There’s no need to let us know if your lid hasn’t been changed yet or if your neighbour’s lid has been changed and yours hasn’t – don't worry, we’ll get to you.
  • The remaining rubbish bin lid changes will be carried out by the same team that collects your rubbish.
  • Trucks can only carry a limited number of new lids at a time.  If your lid is not changed, there is no need to contact us – it will be done another time.  Keep putting your bin out on your usual rubbish collection day until your lid is changed.
  • Your rubbish bin will be collected as normal, whether it has a yellow or red lid.
  • If you haven’t received your new lid by 1 October, let us know.

Why are lids changing?

Lids are being changed as part of Victoria's plan for a circular economy, which requires everyone in Victoria to have the same colour bin lids, helping us all put the right things in the right bin and manage our waste better.
