Gilbert Park upgrades

Knox City Council has carried out a number of upgrades to transform Gilbert Park since 2020, including the skate pavilion, fencing, sports lighting, the play space and the batting cage.

Gilbert Park upgrades

Since 2020, Knox City Council has upgraded Gilbert Park. We have improved:

  • the skate pavilion
  • fencing
  • sports lighting
  • the play space
  • the batting cage.

These upgrades are key initiatives in the Gilbert Park Masterplan, which Council adopted in 2018.

We have completed construction on one of the last initiatives in the Masterplan. This includes:

  • a new wetland
  • a viewing platform
  • carpark upgrades.

The wetland provides many community benefits, including:

  • supporting the environment
  • managing stormwater
  • enabling recreational activities.

Skate and BMX park extension

We are starting work on the extension of the skate and BMX park, in partnership with the Victorian Government.

The final design for the extension is based on community feedback and includes:

  • New extension for junior to intermediate riders
  • New sports lights added to existing circuit
  • Picnic shelter at the eastern end of the park

Visit Upgrade to Gilbert Park's skatepark to see a summary of the community engagement.

The extension has received $250,000 via State Government funding grant (Sports and Recreation Victoria). Council is contributing $600,000.

Most of the park, including the main bowl, will stay open during construction. We expect to complete the extension by March 2026.
