- A revitalised route for Boronia
Exciting changes are underway in central Boronia, with upgrades to the shared bike and pedestrian path, along with improvements to the road on Chandler Road starting on 22 January.
As part of the Boronia Renewal Strategy, construction will improve safety, mobility, reduce car dependence, and ease congestion in Boronia, making it easier and safer to access local facilities and shops. The project will be completed in three stages.
Stage 1 will involve upgrading the shared walking and bike path from Tormore Reserve, along Genista Avenue and Chandler Avenue, to the intersection at Dorset Road. Works will consist of road and pedestrian path markings, footpath and road upgrades, and driveway adjustments. Construction will be completed by the end of February, subject to weather conditions. Disruptions in and around the area will be minimal, including temporary parking restrictions and minor traffic delays from Monday – Friday between 7 am and 5 pm. Traffic management measures will be in place to keep everyone safe in and around the site. Businesses near Genista Avenue and Chandler Road will not be impacted and will remain open, allowing everyone to continue their regular activities.
Stage 2 of the project will see the walking and bike path from Genista Avenue extend from Dorset Road, along Chandler Road up to Albert Avenue. The path will be narrowed at certain locations to navigate around the existing trees in the area. This upgrade stage will also include pavement and road improvements to Chandler Road, making it safer for vehicles to access Dorset Square and travel up to Chandler Park where many sports and community activities occur. The scheduling of this construction work is more challenging due to the busy location. In November 2024, we gathered feedback from the community and local traders on the best time to carry out the works, aiming to reduce disruptions, minimise impacts, and maintain access to businesses during stage 2. Based on this input, construction will begin in February/March and is expected to be completed by July/August 2025, weather permitting.
The third and final stage of this upgrade will start in 2026 and will focus on planting along the shared path route to enhance the existing greenery.

We look forward to delivering this project for our community, making it easier to access parks, shops, sports reserves, clubs, and services in central Boronia.
