Knox Regional Netball Centre officially opened

The new extension and refurbishment of the Knox Regional Netball Centre was officially opened today.

This $15.658 million dollar project was funded by Council in partnership with the Australian Government and Victorian Government in response to the growing demand for improved netball facilities in Knox. The expansion to the Knox Regional Netball Centre will cater for future demand for the highest participation sport for females in Knox.

The project has delivered:

  • 2 new indoor netball courts, including change rooms, multi-purpose function room, office space and spectator seating
  • Upgrades to the existing stadium (2 courts) including improved accessibility and storage
  • 180 extra parking spaces
  • Improved pedestrian walkways, landscaping and a public art installation
  • 4-star energy initiatives including solar power, recycled materials, natural light and rainwater retention systems

The Knox Regional Netball Centre is proudly managed by Knox City Council. The main users of the centre are the Mountain District Netball Association along with a number of regular hire groups including Scope running balloon football for people living with a disability, group fitness classes, local private and public schools, Netball Victoria, State Sports Schools Vic, as well as a large number of local netball clubs.

The Netball Centre is utilised all year round, with netballers of all ages, gender and ability playing. Currently, 1,500+ athletes participate in competitions each week and a number of major tournaments are hosted throughout the year and this number of participants continues to grow.

Having additional indoor courts makes the centre an attractive option for Netball Victoria Ariels, State Schools Victoria, as well as various other organisations, as well as providing flexibility for training and competitions during wet weather conditions.

The centre was formally opened by Mayor Cr Jude Dwight, Mary Doyle, Member for Aston and Jackson Taylor, Member for Bayswater. Cr Megan Baker, Ward Councillor for Dobson, and Cr Marcia Timmers-Leitch, Ward Councillor for Collier also attended the event.

Community Fun Day save the date - Saturday 24 February, 10am – 2pm.

Come along and see the amazing new Knox Regional Netball Centre. More details to come in the New Year.
