Frogs are charismatic species and an important part of the environment! This year the eighth annual FrogID Week will take place from Friday 7 November to Sunday 16 November 2025. The national event aims to monitor the distribution of our different frog populations. To participate, download the FrogID app and start recording frog calls in your local area.
Knox has a great diversity of frog species from the small Southern Brown Tree Frog (Litoria ewingii) to the larger Striped Marsh Frog (Limnodynastes peronii). Some of the best frog listening spots in Knox include:
- Starlight Reserve, Rowville
- Blind Creek Billabong, Ferntree Gully
- Old Joes Creek Bushland, Boronia
When you head out, please walk carefully and stick to dedicated walking paths. Do not touch any frogs and disinfect your footwear between different frog habitats so as not to spread frog germs.
