- Protecting our green areas
We are inviting you to share your thoughts on how we should protect our green wedge land, and significant landscapes. Have your say on the draft Green Areas and Rural Strategy by 23 December 2021.
In Knox, we have extensive green wedge land that is important for agriculture, rural living, recreation, biodiversity and tourism. These areas are highly valued by our community and we need to protect them for the future.
The draft strategy sets out values to protect, and provides land usage directions for the next 20 years. Precincts covered in the strategy are:
- The Basin Rural Landscape
- Lysterfield Valley and Hills
- Lysterfield Quarries and Surrounds
- Dandenong Creek Valley
- Healesville Freeway Reservation and Surrounds
Each precinct presents unique opportunities for future enhancements. The draft strategy focuses on protecting the environmental and social values of each precinct, and identifies the preferred future land use to protect and enhance these values.
The draft strategy proposes actions to make improvements in each precinct including habitat restoration, wildlife connectivity, protecting view lines and cultural heritage, supporting agriculture and tourism, walking and cycling connectivity and improved access to parklands.
Join us at one of our engagement sessions. We are looking forward to hearing your feedback, and we can also help with any queries you have on the draft strategy.
Visit our Have your say website for further information on the draft strategy and to share your feedback.
