- Shining light on Knox and Emerson dog parks
You can now exercise your dog at off-peak times thanks to the installation of solar–powered lights at two of our local off leash dog parks.
Two lights have been installed at Knox Park Reserve, located at the corner of Ferntree Gully Road and Bunjil Way in Knoxfield and four have been installed at Emerson Place Reserve, Emerson Place in Rowville. The lights offer improved access to the parks, providing dog owners with a well-lit environment and the opportunity to exercise their dogs early in the morning or into the evening when visibility of your surroundings is typically limited.
The solar lights will switch on two hours before dawn and, three hours after dusk, adjusting to the change in seasons. Lights will be switched off overnight and during the day.
Knox Park and Emerson Place Reserve are two dog parks in Knox to have solar lights installed. The new lights are a great addition to the existing features of these dog parks which include fully fenced off leash areas, gated access, drinking fountains, waste bins, and shelters.
Funding for the solar-powered lights is part of Council’s 2023 – 2024 Capital Works Program. Works reinforce Council’s commitment to creating safer communities and providing facilities that meet the evolving needs of residents, including those with pets. Also, the solar lights help contribute to the achievement of the Knox Climate Response Plan 2021 – 2031, which aims is protect our community from the effects of climate change and reduce both Council and community greenhouse emissions.
Head down with your four-legged friend for a run and play in these great spaces.
