Create your own chess pieces with Carla Gottgens

Image
Overhead view of an open sketchbook on a green work surface showing a monochrome painting of a horse or knight chess piece rendered in grey wash. A red pencil rests diagonally across the page, while a paintbrush lies to the right. At the top edge, a small paint palette with yellow paint and a dark container are partially visible, reinforcing an active art-making setup.

Create your own chess piece at Knox Library. Join artist Carla Gottgens for a hands-on session where you’ll design and build your own unique chess piece using polymer clay.

What theme will you choose? Will your piece be inspired by fantasy, nature, pop culture or something entirely your own? Reimagine the classic game by replacing the knights, king and queen with your own imaginary characters.

While your creations take shape, step into the game with a giant floor-based chess board and test your skills in a fun, interactive match guided by experienced players.

Suitable for all ages and skill levels.

Bookings essential, limited availability.
