- Recycling bin lids changing soon
From Monday 20 July 2026, we will begin changing recycling bin lids from blue to yellow.
Lids in Knox are being changed to align with new state government rules which require everyone in Victoria to have the same household bin lid colours. This will help us all put the right things in the right bin and manage our waste better. This is the final household bin lid colour change in Knox needed to align with the new rules.
What do I need to do?
From Monday 20 July, leave your recycling bin out until 6pm on your usual recycling collection day so your lid can be changed. Do this every fortnight until you get your new yellow lid.
When will my recycling lid get changed?
We have over 60,000 recycling lids to change, so it will take us time.
There is no need to let us know if your recycling lid hasn’t been changed straight away or if your neighbours has and yours hasn’t, we’ll get to you. Keep leaving your recycling bin out until 6pm on your usual recycling collection day until your lid has been changed.
You only need to contact us if you have not received your new recycling bin lid by 1 February 2027.
What to expect
The trucks coming by to change your recycling lid will be different from the one that collects your recycling waste.
Your lid might be changed before or after your recycling is collected so, leave your recycling bin out until 6 pm so that both tasks can be completed.
Will my recycling collection service change?
Your recycling will be collected as normal whether your bin has a blue lid or a yellow lid.
I forgot to leave my recycling bin out, what do I do?
If you forgot to put your bin out or brought your bin in early, there’s no need to contact us. Simply put your recycling bin out on your next recycling collection day, leave it out until 6pm and, continue doing this every fortnight until you receive your new yellow lid.
Further information
Information about the change and what to do will be sent in the mail to all homes in Knox from the end of June.
