Fresh upgrade scores big at Wally Tew Reserve

The major upgrade of the Wally Tew Pavilion in Ferntree Gully is now complete, delivering modern, accessible and energy efficient facilities for the local community.

The two-storey pavilion has been a familiar landmark at Wally Tew Reserve since 1980. The upgrade has delivered a new kiosk, upgraded umpire’s room, kitchen, bar, social room and female-friendly changeroom amenities. The veranda has also been expanded to provide more room to gather, spectate and celebrate during sporting and community events.

Accessibility has been significantly enhanced with new accessible toilets and a new external staircase, making it easier and safer for more people to use the facility.

As part of the works, the pavilion has also transitioned from gas to all‑electric systems, boosting energy efficiency and helping reduce long‑term operating costs.

The Victorian Government contributed $2 million through the Community Support Fund to support the upgrade, alongside $1.2 million from Council.

Wally Tew Reserve continues to be one of Knox’s most valued community destinations. It is home to major events including Knox Fest and Carols and is the home ground for the Ferntree Gully Eagles Football Netball Club and the Ferntree Gully Cricket Club.

In addition to the pavilion upgrade, improvements to the adjacent oval playing surface are now complete. Together, these upgrades modernise the reserve, enhance the experience for players and visitors, and support the long‑term growth of sport and community activities at this well‑loved local destination.
