Amina Briggs

Image
Stylised illustration of a figure’s legs wearing black high-heeled shoes with red soles stepping across a bright green board game space. The word “BIRRARUNG” is printed in bold black letters on the board beneath the feet.

Amina Briggs’s work in the public realm places humour at the forefront and engages with the surrounding environment. Briggs predominantly integrates her Boonwurrung heritage into her art, presenting it in a contemporary style combined with a touch of absurdity.

This body of work explores the coexistence of wealth and poverty through the lens of capitalism, using Monopoly as both a metaphor and a critique. The work confronts viewers with the reality that Monopoly isn’t fictional – it’s a system we’re actively living in. Using pop art style, it visually captures the audience while unsettling them, aiming to comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable.
