Amina Briggs’s work in the public realm places humour at the forefront and engages with the surrounding environment. Briggs predominantly integrates her Boonwurrung heritage into her art, presenting it in a contemporary style combined with a touch of absurdity.
This body of work explores the coexistence of wealth and poverty through the lens of capitalism, using Monopoly as both a metaphor and a critique. The work confronts viewers with the reality that Monopoly isn’t fictional – it’s a system we’re actively living in. Using pop art style, it visually captures the audience while unsettling them, aiming to comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable.
