A new shared path for Liverpool Road is on track

Works to upgrade the shared path along Liverpool Road, The Basin are underway. The new path will improve our local cycling network and help build better community connections.

Stage 1 works from Pavitt Lane, near the Knox boundary and heading south towards the retarding basin, are complete and include a new 300 metre long, wider, more accessible, shared path for pedestrians and cyclists to enjoy. It replaces the informal dirt path that posed a risk to pedestrians and cyclists given its close proximity to the road and fast-moving traffic.

The old guard rail has been moved to the edge of the road to make room for the new path. Fencing has also been added, and an improved drainage system will help divert stormwater away from the nature strip and into the retarding basin and surrounding wetlands.

Further works will take place at the end of the year and consist of a further 250m of shared path that extends to the retarding basin carpark.

The final section will be built between the retarding basin carpark and Mountain Highway and is expected to be completed by the end of June 2027.

The new stretch of shared path will be 1.18 km long and run along Liverpool Road from Pavitt Lane, near the boundary of Knox, to Mountain Highway. It will provide safer, uninterrupted access to local homes and community facilities in the area. It will also offer a scenic pathway that connects us to our local environment whilst helping the community to get out, stay active and explore.

The Liverpool Road shared path project is being delivered in line with theme 1 of our Council and Health and Wellbeing Plan 2025 - 2029, enhancing community connection to vital resources.
