Stingrays by Ella Gillespie

Image
Dot painting with a repeating pattern of large red circular forms made up of concentric dots, set against a deep blue background filled with smaller blue and black dots. Thin white dotted lines extend outward from some of the red circles, connecting elements across the composition.

Ella Gillespie is an Awabakal contemporary artist who grew up on Bundjalung Country in Northern NSW surrounded by national parks. Ella connected with her love of painting and drawing, influenced by the natural beauty of flora and fauna. Ella has won several national art competitions and has been mentored by renowned Australian artists who have inspired her to discover her own pathway to painting.

In this artwork, the background reflects the bright blue tones of the salty water. It’s so clear you can see straight through to the resting stingrays below. The white lines represent the paths the stingrays have taken, revealing the slow, graceful sway of their barbed tails in the gentle current.

Time: Viewable during daylight hours.
