A big win for Knox parks

Knox City Council has successfully secured $312,500 funding for two projects, thanks to our community’s support in the Victorian Government’s Pick My Park program.

Community votes have helped us secure funding for projects at Marie Wallace Reserve in Bayswater ($250,000), and David Cooper Park in Wantirna South ($62,500).

Knox Mayor, Councillor Paige Kennett said community support has played a significant role in securing this funding.

“We are thankful to everyone who got behind our parks projects,” she said.

“This funding will help us deliver exciting improvements to two local parks that are highly valued by our residents and visitors.”

“Plans for both projects reflect our community’s needs and the feedback they shared with us during community engagement.”

The children’s playspace at Marie Wallace will be renewed with a fun eel-themed play structure to acknowledge the site’s cultural heritage as an eel trap location.

The new playspace includes water play features, an accessible net swing and carousel, and a bank slide. Other improvements include tree planting, additional seating and a new gathering space.

New solar-powered lighting will be installed at David Cooper Park to improve visibility and enhance safety for users after dark.

“These improvements will create a more welcoming and inclusive space where people of all ages can connect, relax and enjoy the natural environment,” Cr Kennett said.

The anticipated start date for construction at both sites is early 2027.

Pick My Park program
The Pick My Park program provides funding to support new and upgraded parks in areas experiencing population growth.

A total of 124 projects were shortlisted in the program, including 3 from Council. A public vote was undertaken to choose which projects should receive the funding.
