Make the 'shift to thrift' this October

Calling all treasure hunters, bargain seekers, and sustainable shoppers! The Knox Op Shop Trail is back and ready to help you shop savvy, give items a new home, and do your bit for the environment.

Did you know that the average Australian throws out 23kg of textile waste into landfill each year and then replaces it with another 27kg of new products? Australians are also the second largest consumer of textiles per person in the world after the United States. Textiles are also the most carbon-intensive materials per tonne to be produced.

Op shops deliver social, economic, and environmental benefits and can help us change this trend. Donating quality items you no longer need reduces waste sent to landfill while shopping second-hand clothing and household items, helps us recycle instead of buying new products. This reduces greenhouse gas emissions associated with manufacturing new products. As an added benefit, proceeds from op shops support community relief services.

This October, join us for the Knox Op Shop Trail to explore the 18 op shops in Knox. Support our community and make a difference by reducing, reusing, and recycling all while finding great bargains!
