Council has been working closely with local police through the Knox Local Safety Committee to help make Knox safer. Council representatives and Inspector Gordon, the Local Area Commander for Knox co-chair the committee, which brings together local support services to work collaboratively to improve community safety.

Ahead of November’s state election, Council is calling for more police and Protective Services Officers in Knox, along with more local community policing initiatives. Community policing helps build trust between police, residents and local traders by focusing on collaboration and crime prevention, rather than simply responding after crimes happen.

In theft being the top two offences in Knox, there are simple things you can do to prevent theft:

  • Lock your car doors, windows and sunroof. After locking your car, pull the handle to make sure it’s actually locked.
  • Do not leave valuables in your car, including house keys or garage door openers or documents that could be used to steal your identity.
  • Install a car alarm.
  • Install anti-theft screws on number plates.
  • Park in a secure locked garage, driveway or well-lit area of the street.
