Council is undertaking grass planting in Boronia following the demolition of the former Knox Basketball Stadium.

Children's activities will return to neighouring Boronia Library in time for the school holidays, after they were briefly paused during works.

Boronia Library will host an autumn children’s event, 'We're going on a leaf hunt', on 8 April from 11am (no bookings required). Storytimes will resume from 22 April while other regular events for adults will also return. Library patrons can stay up to date about library programs via the Your Library website.

In 2017, Council decided to decommission the old basketball stadium, which was structurally defective and flood prone. It was demolished following a $132 million upgrade of the State Basketball Centre at Knox Regional Sports Park in Wantirna South — the new home of Knox Basketball Inc.

The new state-of-the-art centre officially opened last year and represents Council’s biggest ever investment in community facilities. Council secured $105 million funding from the Victorian Government and contributed a further $27 million towards the centre, which is expected to attract over two million people a year.

Council will undertake grass planting and maintenance at the Boronia site until the end of June, to create a grass open space.

Boronia Park will remain open but the planting site will remain closed to the public to allow the grass to establish.
