Shape plans for stormwater and road infrastructure

Provide feedback on how we manage road and stormwater infrastructure. Come along to our drop-in session on 29 September at Civic Centre.

Our stormwater and road infrastructure are important assets that contribute to our community’s safety, wellbeing and liveability.

We are developing a new Stormwater Asset Management Plan [hyperlink to document] and Reviewing the Road Management Plan [hyperlink to document] to provide guidance on our management approach.

Council has an important role in managing our roads and stormwater infrastructure to ensure that we effectively deliver these core services. Our responsibility also involves responding to challenges that include ageing infrastructure, climate change, extreme weather, flood risk and increase infill development.

Road Management Plan Review

Council reviews the Road Management Plan every 4 years to assess the appropriateness of the service levels being proposed.

This plan outlines Council’s operational responsibilities and approach to inspection, maintenance and repair of its roads, footpaths and shared paths.

Council has undertaken a comprehensive review and determined that we are managing roads at appropriate levels. As a result, we are proposing minimal change to our road management approach. 

Draft Stormwater Asset Management Plan

Council is developing the draft Stormwater Asset Management Plan to replace the Drainage Asset Management Plan 2010 which was limited to drainage pipes and pits. The draft plan will cover all stormwater assets including wetlands, stormwater tanks, tree pits and raingarden to ensure we manage these assets strategically.

The 10-year draft plan provides guidance on how Council will continually improve our stormwater asset management practices and outcomes.

A key initiative we are proposing in the draft plan is to upgrade a portion of our drainage network. We have 97km of very small 100mm diameter pipes that needs to be upgraded to pipes that are three times wider (300mm diameter). This is a significant upgrade that will improve performance of our drainage network and better manage stormwater in Knox.
