- Trees For Tots
Growing together from Day 1
Every new baby brings hope and a bright future for our community.
Council's new Trees for Tots initiative celebrates families welcoming a newborn by gifting a native seedling that can grow alongside their child.
In the 2025-26 financial year, 1,345 babies were born in Knox.
Through Trees for Tots, eligible families with a baby born in 2026-27 will receive a voucher from Knox Environment Society to collect a native tree and plant it at home.
Parents may choose from several natives, including plants suitable for smaller gardens or even pots.
Highlighting our Maternal and Child Health nurses
Trees for Tots shines a light on Knox’s Maternal and Child Health (MCH) service, which supports local families from birth through to school age.
MCH nurses provide trusted advice child health and development, feeding, immunisations, parental wellbeing and family safety.
Families will receive their Trees for Tots voucher during their two-week Key Age and Stage consultation, making the program a natural extension of the support available to new parents.
If your baby was born on or after 1 July and you've already had your two-week MCH visit, you're still eligible to claim a free native tree.
Helping the environment
Trees for Tots contributes to Council's goal of achieving 30 per cent tree canopy cover by 2050.
If every eligible family plants their gifted tree, more than 1,300 new trees could be added to private properties across Knox in a single year.
Native trees support wildlife and biodiversity, improve neighbourhoods and help create cooler, healthier environments.
As children grow, so too will their tree, serving as a living reminder of their place within the Knox community.
By planting a native tree for every baby born in Knox, we are investing in our children, our community and our environment for generations to come.
For more information, speak with your Maternal and Child Health nurse, email [email protected] or call 9298 8741 Monday to Friday, 9am to 3.30pm.
