- Young Parents Supported To Thrive
Registrations are now open for the Young Parents Program with the next group to start in August.
For over 30 years Knox City Council has been supporting new young parents to have the best start to their parenting journey, equipping them with essential life skills and support.
For 2 hours on a Friday morning new young parents, with a baby under 12 months old, are provided with the opportunity to come together in a safe and nurturing environment where they can learn, grow and build a supportive community, build social connections, and strengthen parenting and general life skills.
The program is aimed at empowering young people under the age of 25 years to build their parenting and life skills by
- increase young people’s access to services
- provide individual support and referrals
- provide skills based sessions such as budgeting, sexual health, mental health, first aid, healthy relationships and coping skills.
At the end of the group the young parents are supported to transition into their own playgroup.
The sessions are supported by a qualified Youth Worker and a Small Talk Program Facilitator.
A previous young parent shared their experience on the program:
“Coming to this group every Friday is the only day of the week I look forward to. It’s a space where I can just be me and just be with my baby, socialising, feeling cared for and learning and I love it.”
The Young Parents Program makes a profound difference in the lives of young parents by equipping them with essential life skills and support.
The next program will commence in August
