Celebrate 50 years of Coonara Community House

Looking for a fun, free and family-friendly day out while connecting with your local community?

Coonara Community House will celebrate its 50th anniversary on Saturday 7 November with a free festival showcasing the people, programs and partnerships that have helped shape the community house over the past five decades. The festival will also highlight Coonara's commitment to building a sustainable and resilient future through lifelong learning, community wellbeing, employment pathways and environmental responsibility. 

Running from 12pm to 5pm, the festival will bring together residents, past and present participants, volunteers, trainers, Early Learning Centre families, local organisations, businesses and community partners to celebrate Coonara's achievements and strengthen connections for the future.

Festival highlights include:
•    Community participation activities
•    A historical exhibition celebrating 50 years of milestones and community stories
•    Family entertainment and performances
•    Multicultural food stalls
•    Children's and adults' community markets
•    Interactive workshops and activities

The lead-up to the festival has highlighted just how much Coonara means to the community. Residents, past participants and former kindergarten families have generously shared photos, newspaper clippings and personal stories, while many others have volunteered their time or registered as market stallholders to be part of the celebration.

Coonara Community House provides opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to learn, connect and thrive. In addition to this special anniversary celebration, the house offers a wide range of programs and events throughout the year, including the ‘She Connects’ women’s program, annual community celebrations such as its popular Halloween event, and many other learning, wellbeing and community activities.

Knox City Council supports Coonara Community House by providing a Council owned and maintained facility, as well as funding through the Community Partnerships Fund and Community Development Fund grant streams.  

Council is invested in supporting the five Neighbourhood Houses in Knox as they deliver social, economic and health and wellbeing benefits to the Knox community. These outcomes support us to deliver on our Council and Health and Wellbeing Plan. They also increase the community’s access to local services through their 'No Wrong Door Policy', assisting people to find the information/service/support they need.
