Celebrating Holi

Knox is home to a vibrant and growing Indian and multicultural community and many will be celebrating Holi, widely known as the Festival of Colours on Wednesday 4 March.

Holi is a joyful festival that celebrates happiness, togetherness, bringing people closer through colour, laughter, and shared traditions.

“The community should know that Holi has deep cultural and spiritual roots in Indian tradition, symbolising unity, renewal, and respect for diversity, not just a day of playing with colours. It is also a time for family gatherings, sharing sweets, and spreading positivity,” shared Dr. Reena Dubey, President, Hindi Niketan.

Hindi Niketan is one of the oldest Indian / Australian organisations in Victoria. They aim to create awareness of valuable Indian traditions and culture within Australian community and hold many events in the Knox community.

Knox City Council have supported Hindi Niketan through Community Development Fund grants in previous years to run events to celebrate Holi.

Holi events provide an opportunity to bring the community across generations and backgrounds together.

Knox City Council is committed to embracing connection, inclusion and diversity. A strategy within our Council and Health and Wellbeing Plan is focused on assisting, participating in, facilitating and delivering accessible programs, initiatives and events in partnership with our community, community groups and service providers.
