A move toward greener deliveries

From this week, our Meals on Wheels customers will notice a fresh look to their meal bundles.

Instead of the usual plastic bags, meals will arrive secure with white cardboard bands featuring each customer’s name.

  • Dinners will be grouped together using the new bands

  • Soups and desserts will remain in plastic bags for an additional month before also transitioning to cardboard.

The change is part of Lite n’ Easy’s broader effort to reduce singleuse plastics across its supply chain.

What customers can expect

With plastic bags being phased out, volunteers will no longer hand over individually bagged meals. Customers are encouraged to:

  • Have a large reusable bag or basket ready at the door, or

  • Request a reusable bag from the team

Volunteers will continue to support customers by helping transfer meals from cooler bags into reusable bags. Meals can be placed straight into the freezer with the cardboard banding on, or the banding can be removed first - both options are fine.

Staying connected

If you or someone you know has questions or feedback on Light n Easy’s package upgrade, we encourage you to reach us on 9298 7373 with any concerns as the new system rolls out.
