Share your thoughts on proposed changes to our climate actions in Knox for the next 5 years before 23 September.

Our Climate Response Plan supports our community to reach net zero emissions by 2040.

We are halfway through implementing the Climate Response Plan 2021-2031 and are undertaking a mid-term review to shape climate action for the next five years.

This mid-term review will help us check if climate actions are on track, adapt to new climate science, and ensure the Plan remains effective until 2031.

Your feedback is invited on the proposed changes to actions currently in progress, and new actions that we are proposing to add into the plan.

The proposed changes in the draft revised Climate Response Plan include:

Providing more check-ins and communication to community members most vulnerable to extreme weather and power outages
Expand our community education programs to cover more actions, including renter’s rights, clothing recycling, upcycling, local cycling and walking programs
Promote energy efficient initiatives and programs to businesses and industries
Incorporate new actions, including advocating for improvement to the bus public transport system, and consult with Traditional owners on emergency management arrangements for Aboriginal people.

These proposed changes were influenced by the community feedback we received from phase 1 community engagement for the mid-term review of the Plan. Phase 1 consultation was undertaken in July-August 2025 and we received a total of 93 submissions.

Community feedback on the Plan closes on 23 September 2026.

About the Climate Response Plan 2021-2031

The Plan is a key action in the Council and Health and Wellbeing Plan 2025-2029. The Plan consists of 56 targeted climate actions across key themes including, energy efficiency, renewable energy, protecting our natural environment, health and resilience and community education programs.

Through the review of the CRP we have confirmed that we have now completed 25 of the original 55 climate actions.

As a result, in July 2026 we confirmed that we have reduced emissions by 7,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent, representing a 77% reduction from 2021 levels. This is equivalent to removing around 3,200 petrol cars from the road for a year.
