Proposal to sell surplus Council land

Share your thoughts on our proposal to sell surplus land at 68 McIver Street, Ferntree Gully. Feedback closes on 22 September 2026.

Your feedback will be considered when Council’s makes the decision to sell the land or not.

When Council proposes to sell land, Council is required to undertake a statutory process and seek community feedback in accordance with the Local Government Act 2020.

This land was declared surplus by Council in the August 2026 Council meeting. This means there is no identified need to retain the land for community benefit or usage.

The funds of the sale will be reinvested into our Capital Works 2026-2027 program. The total budget for this program is $54.6 million, and it involves upgrading local infrastructure, upgrading roads, maintaining community buildings and improving parks and sports facilities across Knox. These priorities were informed by community feedback.

The vacant land is a grassy block approximately 1065m2 in size. No built Council assets are located on this land.

There are 24 trees along the fence boundary. The arboriculture assessment identified 22 trees to be of low retention value, and 2 trees to be of medium retention value. The aboricultural assessment is available on our Have your say website.

The planning controls that apply to this land ensure that any future development must be compatible with the surrounding neighbourhood and protect the area's landscape character.

These planning controls are Neighbourhood Residential Zone (Schedule 1) and is subject to both a Design and Development Overlay (Schedule 2) and a Significant Landscape Overlay (Schedule 3).
