Register now for kindergarten in 2027

Families will have even more choices of kindergarten sessions for their children in 2027, with more kindergartens joining Council’s central registration system. 

Local families can contact Council to register their children for kindergarten without having to contact multiple kindergartens.

Registrations for 3 and 4-year-old kindergarten places in 2027 open on 1 May this year — one month later than in previous years. This change has been made after consultation with kindergarten providers.

Your child must be 3 or 4 years old by 30 April the year they start kindergarten.

You need to register your child if they are starting kindergarten next year or transitioning from a 3-year-old to a 4-year-old program.

Proposed groups and session times for 2027 are available on our website. These groups and session times may need to change based on the registrations we receive.

Families have the best chance of getting their first preference if they register by 30 June. First round places in Knox will be allocated in July 2026.

The Department of Education has changed the way kindergarten places are allocated and Council has updated the local criteria to meet state government requirements and ensure fair allocation.

Kindergarten providers will finalise enrolments between October and January, with kindergarten programs starting at the end of January 2027.

Participating kindergarten programs receive funding directly from the Victorian Government so families are not out of pocket (and don’t have to claim the savings back).

If your child attends kindergarten at child care, please talk to your centre for information about fees.

If you prefer to attend a kindergarten not participating in central registration you will need to contact them directly.
