- Snack and Chat This Men’s Health Week
Men’s Health week runs from 15 – 21 June and is an opportunity to highlight the importance of men’s health, and to promote and support the health and wellbeing of men and boys in our community.
Men’s Health Week not only focuses on physical, but also mental health and emotional wellbeing. We know that social connections and peer support are a key protective factor to good mental health, and that forming strong and supportive friendships can also reduce isolation.
The free Men’s Mental Health Hub – Snack & Chat program run by the Rotary Club of Boronia is a weekly support program for men aged 18 and over. It pro
vides a safe and inclusive space for peer-led support, community connections, and short-term counselling.
Program facilitator Inga says “the program has grown into a safe and welcoming community space where men are beginning to feel comfortable connecting, talking more openly, and supporting one another without judgement. One of the biggest things we have noticed is the positive impact that connection and community can have on men’s wellbeing”.
Co-facilitator Felicia has also observed that “when men are provided with a safe, non-judgemental environment, they are far more willing to open up about their struggles and seek support. The sense of trust and community developing within the Hub has been incredibly meaningful to witness”.
A regular participant in the program said ‘the Men’s Hub program is making a genuine difference - I have it booked out in my calendar every week, and week on week we see more and more new faces”.
The group meets every Wednesday afternoon from 1-3pm at the Boronia Scout Hall, 44 Chandler Road, Boronia. Snacks, tea, and coffee provided. No bookings required. Just walk in.
The Men’s Mental Health Hub is supported through Council’s Community Development Fund program.
Help and support is available if you or someone you know is experiencing poor mental health.
