- Windmill restored at Wally Tew Reserve
Visitors to Wally Tew Reserve may notice some colourful changes taking place. Recently, the windmill at Wally Tew was restored to its former glory, thanks to the work of Knox Arts and Cultural Services and Meridian Sculpture.
Meridian Sculpture began work on the windmill in early November. The upgrade included much-needed maintenance that improves the structure’s safety and appearance. Rust was removed, and all rotten wood replaced.
The windmill also received a fresh coat of paint in vibrant colours reflective of the original palette, and a protective anti-graffiti coating was added. The windmill was originally developed as part of Council’s “Placemakers Legacy” program, an initiative that revitalised urban spaces with public art by Knox area artists during the 1980’s.
The next restoration project is the Bike Sculpture, located on the corner of Stud Road and Burwood Highway in Wantirna South.
Check out the restored windmill next time you visit Wally Tew Reserve!
