$84 million lost to electronic gaming machines in Knox

New data from the Victorian Local Governance Association shows that across 2025-2026, Victorians lost a record $3.318 billion to electronic gaming machines. $84 million was lost in Knox which is an increase from 6.05% from 2024-2025.

On average, $7.6 million was lost per gaming venue during the 2025/26 financial year and an average of $108,986 was lost per machine, highlighting the significant financial impact of electronic gaming machine losses in Knox.

The continued increase in electronic gaming machine losses renews discussions about gambling harm and its impact on local communities.

The latest data shows that electronic gaming machine losses continue to grow despite broader cost-of-living pressures, and this can contribute to financial hardship and impact individual and family wellbeing.

Knox City Council has recently developed a new help card for people who are concerned about their own or someone else’s gambling. Printed copies of the help card are available in the Customer Service area at Knox Civic Centre and will become available at other locations across Knox in the coming months.

In February this year, Knox City Council established a new Gambling Harm Prevention Policy. Work is currently underway to implement the new policy which has four key focus areas including Planning and Regulation, Building Community Capacity, Leadership and Advocacy.

If you or someone you know is experiencing gambling harm, free and confidential support is available through Gambler’s Help. You can call them on 1800 858 858.
