Knox Australia Day Awards

Our Australia Day Awards is a great opportunity to honour everyday heroes who have made an outstanding contribution to the Knox community.

Nominations open 

We invite you to nominate amazing people who have made a positive difference in our community. This includes people who reach out to help others, volunteer at schools and clubs, or work to sustain the environment.

Nominations close 22 November 2021.

Nominate for Knox Australia Day Awards

Award categories

Nominations are invited in the following categories:

Young Citizen of the Year

For community members of Knox who are under 25 years of age on 26 January in the year the award is being presented and who have made an outstanding contribution to their community or school.

Elder Citizen of the Year

For community members of Knox aged 65 and over who have made a significant contribution to the community or are an inspirational role model.

Local Hero

For a community member who performed a heroic act or made a singular outstanding achievement in the Knox community.

Sustainability Leadership Award

For community members of Knox whose actions and ideas have had a significant positive impact on:

  • the protection, enhancement or awareness of Knox’s natural environment; and/or
  • environmental sustainability outcomes or initiatives within our City.
Volunteer of the Year

For community members of Knox who have given of themselves in a voluntary role.

Citizen of the Year

For community members of Knox who could be described as role models in the community, who have given selflessly of themselves to others.

Australia Day Award ceremony

Winners and nominees will be honoured and celebrated on Australia Day, Wednesday 26 January.

About the Awards

Each year on Australia Day, we honour everyday heroes in the Knox Community. Winners are selected from an outstanding field of nominees, each representing members of the community who have gone above and beyond to make a positive impact in Knox.

The 2021 Knox Local Australia Day Awards recipients were:

  • Citizen of the Year: Christine Ellis
  • Young Citizen of the Year: Aimee Bugeja
  • Elder Citizen of the Year: Christel Huwald
  • Volunteer of the Year: Manoj Varsani
  • Local Hero: Eve John.

The 2020 Knox Local Australia Day Awards recipients were:

  • Citizen of the Year: Gary Cantwell
  • Young Citizen of the Year: Sam Heydon
  • Elder Citizen of the Year: Jeanette Spencer
  • Volunteer of the Year: Neil Morriss
  • Environmentalist of the Year: Erica Peters
  • Local Hero: Sam Jelley
