Permit to reside in a caravan
You are required to apply for a permit if you intend to live in a caravan or camp in Knox for an extended period.
This includes a tent, shed or any other temporary accommodation on your own property.
You are not required to obtain a permit if you are staying at a caravan park.
The maximum permit granted is 12 months.
As part of your application, we may seek feedback from your neighbours.
How to apply
To apply for a permit to reside in a caravan, you will need to:
- download and complete the application form
- create a sketch showing the caravan location including the distance from fences and houses
- pay the permit fee.
Submit your application
Share your application form, sketch plan and permit fee with us via:

- Mail to Knox City Council, 511 Burwood Highway, Wantirna South VIC 3152, or
- Submit it in person at the Knox Customer Service Counter located at our council offices at 511 Burwood Highway, Wantirna South VIC 3152.
Fees and charges
The application fee is $271 (this includes a $173 non-refundable application fee and a $98 permit fee).
This fee is current from 1 July 2023 until 30 June 2024.
