Living in a caravan or camping

You need a permit to live in a caravan or camp for an extended period, unless you are staying at a caravan park.

Permit to reside in a caravan

You are required to apply for a permit if you intend to live in a caravan or camp in Knox for an extended period.

This includes a tent, shed or any other temporary accommodation on your own property.

You are not required to obtain a permit if you are staying at a caravan park.

The maximum permit granted is 12 months.

As part of your application, we may seek feedback from your neighbours.

How to apply

To apply for a permit to reside in a caravan, you will need to:

  • download and complete the application form
  • create a sketch showing the caravan location including the distance from fences and houses
  • pay the permit fee.

Submit your application

Share your application form, sketch plan and permit fee with us via:

  • Email [email protected]
  • Mail to Knox City Council, 511 Burwood Highway, Wantirna South VIC 3152, or
  • Submit it in person at the Knox Customer Service Counter located at our council offices at 511 Burwood Highway, Wantirna South VIC 3152.

Fees and charges

The application fee is $282 (this includes a $180 non-refundable application fee and a $102 permit fee).

This fee is current from 1 July 2024 until 30 June 2025.
