Recruiting Committee

Knox Multicultural Advisory Committee (KMAC)

Joint Knox Multicultural Advisory Committee and Knox Interfaith Network statement in response to COVID-19 racism

The Knox Multicultural Advisory Committee (KMAC) together with the Knox Interfaith Network (KIN) are united in their commitment to a safe, cohesive and harmonious community. Knox is a culturally diverse community with just over 30% of its residents born overseas. These residents are a vital part of the community, contributing in a multitude of ways to make Knox a great place to live, work and play.

At this time of the COVID-19 pandemic it is more important than ever that Knox residents support each other. KMAC and KIN encourage all residents to practice mutual respect and to denounce any form of racial discrimination. It is in treating others with respect that we learn not only something of them, but also of ourselves. We thus become a more interesting and robust community. We must stand up and celebrate our diversity without fracturing our communities

The Knox Multicultural Advisory Committee provides Council with advice on multicultural issues and the promotion of greater awareness and understanding in the local community of cultural diversity in Knox.

The objectives of the Committee are to:

  • Provide advice and recommendations to Council on multicultural issues;
  • Identify issues and opportunities affecting people from multicultural backgrounds;
  • Assist Council in the development of policy, strategies and action in relation to issues and opportunities identified;
  • Advocate for increased awareness and understanding of issues and opportunities affecting multicultural communities within Knox;
  • Assist Council with its communication, consultation and engagement with multicultural communities;
  • Assist Council to promote and celebrate the benefits of cultural diversity in Knox and to build connections between different cultural groups within the Knox community; and
  • Assist Council to monitor the implementation of the Knox City Council Multicultural Strategic Plan 2012-2017.
