The A Note From Leisure (ANFL) newsletter is delivered fortnightly to nearly 700 subscribers, including local clubs, industry partners, Councillors, and Council staff. It’s managed by Council’s Leisure Services and Communications teams.

Council’s Club Development Program supports sport and leisure clubs across Knox to grow and thrive. The program offers workshops, resources, tailored support, and networking opportunities to help create welcoming and inclusive environments.

Why it matters

Workshops help volunteers build skills, strengthen leadership, and stay up to date with the latest information. They’re designed to inspire and inform—not to tell you how to run your club.

Inclusivity and diversity in sport

Disability Sport and Recreation

Disability Sport and Recreation (DSR) has supported people with disability to enjoy sport and active recreation for over 60 years.

Why it matters

DSR helps clubs:

  • increase disability awareness
  • encourage inclusive participation
  • access resources like the NDIS Sports Guide to support members and staff with disability.

Knox Girls Can

About

Following the conclusion of VicHealth’s This Girl Can campaign, Council launched Knox Girls Can to continue promoting physical activity and connection among women, girls, and non-binary people. The program celebrates real stories and highlights local sport and leisure opportunities across Knox.

It helps clubs:

  • attract and engage women, girls, and non-binary participants
  • promote inclusivity and community connection
  • raise the club’s profile by showcasing opportunities and success stories.

Proud 2 Play

About

Proud 2 Play works with sporting communities to create safe, inclusive environments for LGBTQI+ people. In 2023, several Knox clubs took part in the Rainbow Ready Club Program, supported by Sport and Recreation Victoria.

Inclusive clubs attract diverse members and create spaces where everyone feels safe, welcome, and respected.

Sport For All Toolkit

About

The Sport for All – Gender Inclusive Toolkit is a self-assessment tool based on the six principles of the Fair Access Policy Roadmap (2022). Knox Council promoted this program in 2025.

Why it matters

It helps clubs identify strengths and areas for improvement to increase participation among women, girls, and gender-diverse people.

The Good Sports program helps clubs reduce alcohol-related harm and create safer, family-friendly environments. Over 70 Knox clubs have an active or inactive account.

Knox City Council is a child-safe organisation committed to the wellbeing of all children and young people in our community.
