Walking in Knox

Walking improves your health, strengthens social and community connections and saves you money.

It makes our community safer and more livable and even helps save the planet.

Walking routes

Over 1200km of footpaths weave through the City of Knox. Council maintains them so your walks are safe and enjoyable.

You can even discover and create scenic, historical or commuter walking adventures with walking maps.

You can also find out more in the Knox Pedestrian Plan.

Walking groups

Walking groups are free to join. It's a great way to make new friends and look after your health.

Local volunteers lead each group on walking routes through Knox.

Find your local walking group through the Heart Foundation website.

Walk to School

Walk to School is a VicHealth initiative supported by Knox City Council.

Every October, Council works to get everyone in the school community walking to school. It's lots of fun, school communities get fit and schools can win local and regional prizes.

Walking to school teaches students healthy habits. It also helps them reach the 60 minutes of daily physical activity recommended for kids.

Getting more people walking to school helps reduce:

  • traffic
  • parking problems
  • the environmental impacts of driving.
