Youth programs

Knox Youth Services is a service for young people aged 10 to 25 who live, work, study or have a connection in Knox.

Youth Hive

The Youth Hive is a dedicated space in the Knox Library (Westfield Knox, Level 3 above Rebel Sport) for young people aged 10 to 25 years. Knox City Council youth workers are available from 2 pm to 5 pm weekdays if you need information, support or would just like to chat. No appointment needed.

Youth Hive activities run weekly during the school term from 3 pm to 5pm.They are free and drop-in style, so no registrations are required. 

This term’s activities are:

  • Monday: Art Arvo
  • Tuesday: Board games
  • Wednesday: Study Bees 
  • Thursday: Table tennis
  • Friday: Video games.

The first Thursday of each month is also Night Hive, which runs from 5 pm to 8 pm and offers a variety of relaxed activities. Check our socials (@KnoxYouthServices) to find out what’s on offer for the next Night Hive.

Click Capture Create Photography Workshop

Learn the basics of photography at the Click, Capture, Create Workshop. Young people will explore simple photography techniques, take part in fun photo challenges, and experiment with creative ways to capture images.

You'll also learn basic photo editing skills and use your favourite photos to create a final collage to showcase your work.

No photography experience is needed. Bring your own phone or camera.

  • Day: Thursdays, 12 November to 3 December
  • Time: 4 pm to 6 pm
  • Ages: 14 to 17 years old
  • Cost: Free

Paint & Picnic

Enjoy the spring sunshine and get creative at Paint & Picnic, a free art program for young people aged 14 to 18 who learn outside of traditional school settings, such as homeschooling.

Over 4 weeks, you'll explore new art techniques, develop your creative ideas, and connect with other young people in a relaxed outdoor picnic setting. No art experience is needed, and all materials and snacks are provided.

  • Day: Fridays, 9 to 30 October
  • Time: 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm
  • Ages: 14 to 18 years old
  • Cost: Free

Knox Young Writers Hive

Join the Knox Young Writers Hive and foster your love of writing all while making new friends. 

  • Day: Fourth Friday of the month
  • Time: 4 pm to 5 pm
  • Ages: 12 to 17 years old
  • Cost: Free

The Forge

A new program for young men aged 12 to 15 years old.

Looking for a place to hang out and meet new people? The Forge is a free youth program for young men to make friends, take part in activities, enjoy free snacks and have fun in a safe space.

Expressions of interest are open now.

LGBTQIA+ groups

Free 2be me and 4me

Free 2be me (for ages 10 to 13) and 4me (for ages 14 to 17) are social groups for LGBTQIA+ young people who live, work, study or spend time in Knox.

The groups provide a safe and inclusive space to meet other young people, build connections and take part in fun activities while being supported to be themselves.

  • Day: Wednesdays fortnightly
  • Time: 4:30 pm to 6 pm
  • Cost: Free

Emerge

Emerge is a social group for LGBTQIA+ young people aged 18 to 25 who live, work, study or spend time in Knox.

The group provides a welcoming and inclusive space to meet new people, build friendships and connect with the LGBTQIA+ community through social activities, discussions and events.

  • Day: Mondays fortnightly, February to July 
  • Time: 5 pm to 6:30 pm
  • Cost:  Free

Young Parents Program

The Young Parents Program supports young parents under 25 who have a baby under 12 months old. Run in partnership with our Early Years team, the program provides information, support and activities to help young parents build confidence, develop parenting and life skills, connect with other young parents and create supportive peer networks.

  • Day: Fridays 
  • Time: 10 am to 12 pm
  • Cost: Free

Knox Youth Summit

The Youth Summit gives young people a chance to share their ideas, experiences, and priorities with Council. Each year, it alternates between an in-person event for secondary school students and an online survey for young people aged 16 to 25. What young people tell us helps shape Council's decisions, programs, and services.

  • Day: Annually 
  • Ages: 12 to 18 years old (Youth Summit) and 16 to 25 years old (Have Your Say)
  • Cost: Free

Holiday program

We offer a range of activities every school holidays for different age groups, including arts and crafts, sports, workshops, and hands-on experiences.
