Review of the Vegetation Protection Overlay - Schedule 2 (Amendment C196Knox)

Amendment C196Knox to the Knox Planning Scheme seeks to remove references to specific trees from the Vegetation Protection Overlay – Schedule 2 (VPO2) where site investigations have found the specific trees no longer exist.

At its meeting on 15 December 2025, Council resolved to adopt the technical investigation and seek authorisation to prepare and exhibit a planning scheme amendment to implement the recommendations. View the resolution

About the amendment

Amendment C196knox does not introduce any new tree controls or additional planning permit requirements.

Amendment C196knox proposes to remove references to specific trees from the VPO2 that no longer exist. If your property is listed in the description of proposed changes, this amendment may result in the removal of the VPO2 from your property.

However, if other vegetation identified under the VPO2 remains on the land, the VPO2 will continue to apply, and a planning permit may still be required for vegetation removal.

Please note that other planning controls, including permit requirements for vegetation removal, may still apply to your property under the Knox Planning Scheme.

Current status – Review of the Vegetation Protection Overlay – Schedule 2 (Amendment C196Knox)

The amendment was placed on public exhibition from 4 May 2026 to 4 June 2026. Exhibition of the amendment has now closed. Council officers will seek adoption of the amendment at a Council meeting later this year before submitting the amendment to the Minister for Planning for final approval.

The amendment will come into effect should the Minister for Planning publish a notice in the Victoria Government Gazette.
