Pay in full or by instalments

You can pay your rates in one simple payment on or before 15 February 2027.

To pay by instalments, you need to have paid your first instalment before 30 September 2026.

You can split your rates across 4 payments and use any of the ways to pay mentioned above.

The due dates are:

  • Instalment 1 – 30 September 2026
  • Instalment 2 – 30 November 2026
  • Instalment 3 – 28 February 2027
  • Instalment 4 – 31 May 2027.

You must pay your first instalment, including any arrears, before 30 September 2026.

You can:

  • pay in smaller amounts whenever you like, as long as the full instalment is paid by the due date
  • spread your payments weekly or fortnightly, as long as each instalment is fully paid on time
  • make sure your total rates are paid in full by the end of the financial year.

Example

If your instalment is $800 and the due date is in 8 weeks, you could pay $100 each week or $200 each fortnight. As long as the full $800 is paid by the due date, your instalment will be on time.

If you miss paying the full first instalment amount by 30 September 2026, you will have to pay the rates in full by 15 February 2027.

Overdue rates payments

If you have unpaid rates from a previous rates notice, you are in arrears and need to pay the overdue amount immediately.

Interest charges

We charge interest on overdue rates from the due date until the full amount is paid. If you have an agreed payment plan and keep up with your agreed payments, we will not charge penalty interest on the overdue amount.

The Minister for Local Government sets the penalty interest rate that Council applies under the Local Government Act 1989.

Legal action

If you do not pay your overdue rates or do not follow an agreed payment plan, Council may take legal action to recover the debt. Any legal costs awarded under the Local Government Act 1989 will be added to your overdue rates.

Request a rates refund

You can request a rates refund by:

We aim to process rates refund requests within 15 business days. If a refund needs to be issued by cheque or EFT and we do not have your bank details, processing may take up to 30 business days.

Your refund request must include:

  • your rates assessment number and property address
  • date of payment
  • a copy of the proof of payment showing the amount that you paid (unless the credit is a direct result of a pensioner concession being applied).

If you originally paid by:

  • BPAY – we will refund the money back to the same account you used to make the payment
  • credit card – we will refund the money back to the same credit card you used to pay.

We will pay other rate refunds by cheque or EFT. If you request a refund by EFT, you must also provide a copy of a recent bank statement. The statement must clearly show the BSB, account number and the name of the account holder or holders.

Rebates and payment assistance

If you are a pensioner, you may be able to claim a pensioner concession rebate.

Council offers payment assistance to people who have suffered loss of income or are in financial difficulty.
