Bayswater Renewal Strategy

Council is reviewing the Bayswater 2020: Bayswater Activity Centre Structure Plan to reflect the Victorian Government's planning strategy for major activity centres.

Plan Melbourne 2017-2050

The Victorian Government identifies Bayswater as a major activity centre in its Plan Melbourne 2017-2050 in 2017. This metropolitan planning strategy guides the growth of Metropolitan Melbourne to 2050. It sets the strategy in relation to:

  • jobs
  • housing
  • transport
  • local services
  • sustainability.

Current Structure Plan

Land use and development of the Centre has been guided by the Bayswater 2020: Bayswater Activity Centre Structure Plan which was adopted by Council in 2005.

This Structure Plan is pending a review to reflect and respond to the changes and challenges for the Centre into the future to:

  • support sustainable growth
  • enhance and protect what is important in Bayswater.

Status

Preliminary consultation was conducted during March and April 2020 to understand the key issues and opportunities present in Bayswater.

The feedback received will inform planning for the future direction of the project including the preparation of a draft strategy for the Centre.

Further opportunities will be provided for community consultation and feedback.
