Knox Community bus

Community Transport and Outings

The objectives of the service are to provide:

  • A transport service for residents of the Knox municipality who are over 65 years old, frail, aged, mobility impaired or transport disadvantaged to access local senior citizen clubs, programs and shopping.
  • An exciting outings program that offer day trips to interesting destinations around Melbourne.
  • An annual opportunity for eligible seniors clubs and seniors community groups to hire a community bus for a social outing.

Each year the service carries an average of 18,000 passengers and covers an average of 68,000 km!

Community Shopping Bus

Escorting shoppers getting on the community bus

The Community Shopping Bus offers eligible clients the opportunity to shop independently at a local shopping centre, as well as the potential to be socially active with people living in their neighbourhood.

The service is aimed at clients who live independently, who cannot drive, have no appropriate access to transport and who are able to shop without the assistance of a Support Worker.

The buses operate on a regular fortnightly or monthly basis.

Day Outings

Knox Community Bus at the seaside

We have a regular schedule of community outings to various attractions, exhibitions, scenic drives, dining experiences and mystery tours. Schedules for outings are available by suburb under 'File Downloads' below.

Fees and contributions

Clients are asked to make a modest contribution of $3 cash each way on the Community Shopping Bus.

Day Outings are $8.40 each and no payment is required on the day of the outing - this will be sent in an account, which is sent every 4 weeks.

Excursion bookings that occur between 9am and 4pm weekdays are taken in December each year for the following year.

Bookings are subject to availability outside the hours listed above - including weekends and public holidays. Please contact our Community Transport Office on 9298 8518 during business hours or email Kevin Kelly, the Program Lead of Community Transport at
