What is School Focused Youth Service?

School Focused Youth Service - "Working in partnership with schools and agencies to enhance the wellbeing of young people".

School Focused Youth Service (SFYS) form part of the Victorian Government commitment to The Education State.

Knox City Council is funded by the Department of Education to work with schools (government, Catholic and independent) and community-based agencies to develop partnerships, and enhance existing relationships that support the target cohort to remain engaged in their education. The key premise of SFYS is to develop integrated service responses; and to support partnerships between schools and community agencies.

The target group for SFYS interventions and support are students in Year 5 – Year 12, who are attending school but are vulnerable to, or showing signs of disengagement from their education. SFYS also builds the capacity of schools to better support those students, to help them remain actively engaged in learning and successfully complete their education.

To discuss support requests contact Knox School Focused Youth Service Coordinator;

Contact Lynn Arvanitakis on 9298 8465.

  • Services for students: target interventions – SFYS will support schools to identify potential local programs and services to address specific barriers for students displaying signs of disengagement;
  • Services for schools: capacity building – SFYS can work with schools to build their capacity to better support the SFYS target group, this usually involves professional development programs determined by the barriers to engagement identified for the specific students; and
  • Developing links and partnerships; coordination between youth services and schools.
