Knox Sport and Leisure Awards 2016

Club Development

Council's Club Development Program offers local sport and leisure groups an opportunity to participate in in a variety of educational workshops, which will be delivered online during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The workshops are designed to create a sustainable local sporting landscape in Knox through educating club volunteers in an array of important topics to assist club committees, coaches and members.

Health and Wellbeing sessions - ‘Club Re-Connect'

Delivered by Sport and Life Training (SALT), the Club Re-Connect program is an interactive, online presentation that digs deep into how sporting club members are traveling right now, and equips participants to support one another into the future.

These free sessions are offered to all members of Knox sport and leisure clubs (aged 15+) and are aimed at working through issues that the Covid pandemic has raised such as loneliness, anger, financial hardship, relational problems amongst others.

Strategic Planning Anthony Bowd, Manager Strategic Projects at Vicsport, will present this interactive webinar, aimed at providing a greater understanding of successful planning principles for clubs to consider when returning to sport. Anthony will also provide an overview of the short, medium and long term issues that clubs should be planning to address for the return to sport. Women in Sport Leadership Two inspiring leaders from the Deakin Melbourne Boomers will host this engaging seminar, covering topics including ‘becoming a woman of influence’ and ‘leading through crisis’. Women in leadership positions in Knox clubs are encouraged to join the Boomers co-captain Maddie Garrick and General Manager Christy Collier for this engaging webinar. Participation Strategies Tom Dixon, Participation Strategy Manager at Vicsport, will share insights into successful approaches to increasing participation in sport. Child Safe Standards

New minimum standards now apply to ensure that children are being treated responsibly and safely. As sporting clubs provide services to children, they will be required under the Child Safety and Wellbeing Act to ensure that they implement compulsory child safe standards to protect children from harm.

The Commission for Children and Young People have developed seven Child Safe Standards that clubs can adopt in order to protect children from abuse, and meet the requirements under the standards.These Child Safe Standards can be downloaded below.

Grants for Sporting Clubs

Council provides an array of grants to local sporting clubs to assist with purchasing new equipment, running inclusive programs and undertaking significant capital works developments. View Council's various grant programs.

In-Club Education Program

The In-Club Education Program aims to work directly with Knox sporting clubs in building strong cultures and addressing cultural issues that clubs and Council identify as being prominent within the community. This includes, but is not limited to, gender inequity, inappropriate drug and alcohol consumption, poor mental health, a lack of inclusiveness, and poor governance.

The first stage of the Program is now complete with three clubs participating and completing, and the second stage is set to commence soon with a further seven clubs participating.
